About Elizabeth Meyer
Elizabeth (Phelps) Meyer hails from Katonah, NY. She holds a BA from Brown University in Visual Arts and Religious Studies, a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art, and a MFA in Visual Arts from Purchase College, SUNY. Lizzie has a broad range of interests including sculpture, drawing and painting, theater, puppetry, and poetry, and she is a devoted student of Buddhist philosophy and meditation, both domestically as well as in Burma (Myanmar) and Nepal. Lizzie has also attended Quaker meetings since 1991, including at Amawalk Friends Monthly Meeting, Croton Valley Monthly Meeting, Providence Monthly Meeting, and most recently, Bulls Head-Oswego Monthly Meeting here in Dutchess County. She combines her diverse creative and spiritual interests in the making of her experimental animated films. Lizzie has a solo show in October, 2015 at Real Art Ways in Hartford, CT., and her films are screened at film festivals and in other venues. She has been teaching art for 14 years, in independent school, community, and university settings. Lizzie lives on campus in "The Barn" (and in her studio in Taylor whenever possible!) with her young daughter Olivia, an enormous cat named Stripes, and her husband Howard, who is a playwright, acting teacher, and co-artistic director of the Axial Theatre Company in Westchester county, of which Lizzie was a participating member for five years. Lizzie's classes at Oakwood Friends School include Ceramics (basic and advanced), Drawing and Painting, Portfolio Development, Introduction to Art, Animation, Video and Performance Art, Sculpture, and Art in Nature |
